John Charles, Leeds 1950s

I had a couple of John Charles figures for ages, and couldn't decide what to do with them. I've never been one for keeping figures in their boxes, but these looked so great in their 'World Greats' box set.

Eventually, tho, I decided to get them out, and do a couple of Leeds kits.

I'm glad that I did!

This is the kit that Charles set Leeds' record for number of goals in one season- it still stands today.

Stay tuned for the other John Charles repaint!

Distin, Everton

I've done this Everton kit quite a few times now!

Here, a lookalike figure was requested to make Sylvain Distin.

Think I've mentioned it in a previous post, but this is another example of a name in white being requested on the base.

Here's a pic of the real Distin:

Rollo, Bath City

I do love getting orders like this one!

Before this, I had never heard of Jim Rollo, and couldn't have told you what kit Bath City wore. Now I can tell you that this was the kit they were promoted in!

(I can also tell you about the away kit- pics soon!)

As I understand it, Rollo is a bit of a local legend- a quick look at his Wiki page shows that he has nearly 500 games for Bath under his belt!

Here he is, celebrating promotion:

And here's his twitter response to a picture of this figure:

The fabled triple whammy; a favourite, a retweet, and a reply! It's also nice to see that the other favourite and retweet are from the guy that bought the 2 Rollo figures!

Waddle, Sheffield Wednesday

As I mentioned a while back, the Sheffield Wednesday Cantona that I put on ebay led to further enquiries... and sales.

While Corinthian did make a Wednesday Waddle, the customer requested this kit, as worn in the UEFA Cup in the early 90s.

The main difference between this and and any other Wednesday figure produced is the location of the Sanderson logo (in place of the O in the sponsor)

I can't even find a picture of the shirt online! I had to watch Youtube videos to see what it was like!

Carrick, Spurs

Michael Carrick, in his Spurs days here.

This was part of a series of Spurs figures that was, until recently, my biggest ever order.

Here's a pic to compare it to:

Valdez, Olympiakos

Here's another Olympiakos repaint! Haedo Valdez.

As with many of the Greek Superleague figures I've done, I had to use a lookalike figure.

It was worth a RT and a  Favourite on twitter from Valdez himself.

Blind, Man U

Here's a figure that I did especially for ebay.

I had a figure that I thought resembled Daley Blind enough to take a punt on making this, and it sold first time I listed it.

Here's a pic of him, so you can look at it and say... "Yeah, it sort of looks like him!"

He is a little less beardy in this pic!

Gilmour, Toronto Maple Leafs

Here's my first Ice Hockey figure! It was sent to me all the way from Canada!

It was actually already wearing a Maple Leafs kit (or should I say uniform?!) but this white kit is what was requested.

The player, just in case you're interested is Doug Gilmour.

Chiellini, Juventus

The first order that I've posted to Italy!

Luis Suarez's favourite appetiser during the World Cup, in the kit of his club side Juventus.

I had to use a lookalike figure, as there was a Microstar version of Chiellini, but not a Prostar.

Here's the kit:

Di Canio, Sheffield Wednesday

I like this one! Di Canio in Sheffield Wednesday kit, trademark white boots and all!

I was surprised Corinthian didn't make one of these themselves, but had it pointed out to me that it was something to do with the timing of their relegation that would've prevented it. Or the time of his transfer, I forget.

I painted this for a Wednesday fan who found my Cantona figure on ebay, and asked if I was willing to do anymore. I was!

I ended up painting this exact figure again, for someone else who saw it on Facebook, and liked it!

I have one more Wednesday figure up my sleeve from the same order to post in the near future!
If you're a Wednesday fan, and you'd like to see more, you know what to do!

Leighton, Aberdeen

Jim Leighton in a 90s kit template that was worn by a few clubs.

This kit was released on some other keepers (Mark Crossley among them, if I remember rightly) but not Leighton, which is why the guy who bought this, and collects SPL figures was keen to get it done!

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of Leighton wearing it!

Sheedy, Everton

Here's another repaint for my Everton regular!

A lookalike figure had to be used to make Sheedy, and this job included darkening the hair.

This is my second time painting this kit... and not my last! Click here if you want to see the first attempt!

This repaint was also the first time someone asked for the name to be put on the base in white. I quite like it, but I'm not sure if I'd do it for my own collection... mainly because it would mean adjusting so many others!

Here's the real Sheedy:

"Franks", Leeds 1992

A guy got in contact with me over twitter to paint this 'Credit to the Game' figure, that he won in a competition.

Some bank, I forget which, actually made lookalike figures of the competition winners! The problem was, they were in a horrible, general blue and red kit, and had "Credit to the Game" printed in massive letters on the base.

This was actually easier to paint than a corinthian figure... because it was huge!!

And just as an interesting aside, the guy who had found me on twitter (amongst the millions of other users) has the seat behind me at Elland Road on his season ticket! How weird is that!

If you have a Credit to the Game figure that you want taking out of it's horrible red and blue kit, and painted into one of your choice, contact me by leaving a comment here, on Facebook, or on twitter...or if you sit behind me at Elland Road, you can ask me there too!!

Salvation Army Officer!

Bit of an unusual one this, to say the least!

In case you want a back story (and even if you don't) I attend the Salvation Army regularly, as my church.

One week, as part of the service, we were encouraged to bring along something we had 'created'. It fitted in with the theme, you see.

I couldn't think what to do at first, until I thought about how I create things fairly regularly (see rest of blog!)

When I found a manager figure in my spare box, it was decision made!

Particular personal highlights are the small 'S' on each shoulder and lapel, and the Salvation Army flag base!

Here's the image I used to help me with the details!

Milestone!

Just a quick post to show that my page has rampaged past the 250 likes mark on Facebook... by 2!

Here's a bit of pictorial evidence!

To all my Facebook 'likers', blog readers and twitter followers; ta very much!

Ferguson, Blackpool

The second figure in a Blackpool order I had a while back.

Barry Ferguson, with a figure that was a little too youthful for the way he looked at Blackpool!

Fortunately, he had a pretty sizable beard to mask his boyishness!

Here's a photo of him acting as a ball boy:

Karelis, Panathinaikos

Karelis, Panathinaikos.

Hm... I seem to have just written the title again.

I enjoyed painting this- nice to have a kit that was a bit different... different from everything but this, of course!

Here's a pic to compare to:

Manolas, Olympiakos

I know almost nothing about this player! I can't even tell you his first name without googling it!

I think he played for Greece at this year's World Cup, and he may or may not still play for Olympiakos!

What I do know, is that I can pretty much do this kit without a picture now!

...his first name is Kostas.

Wetherall, Leeds away

I found this Wetherall pic in the 'Repaints' folder on my desktop, having almost forgotten about it!

I painted it ages ago! Tbh, I reckon I could do a far better job on it now, although it's not bad! I think I was just finding my feet as a repainter when I did it, and wanting to try something new.

Funnily enough, when a few Leeds fans were looking at my Leeds album on facebook, someone said this was their favourite. Maybe I'm just more critical of my own work!

I loved this kit, and had a spare Wetherall from my original collection.

Cantona, Sheffield Wednesday

I thought of doing this one a while back, after a positive response to my Ronaldinho St Mirren figure.

In case you didn't know, this is one of those famous 'almost transfers' that never actually happened- Cantona joined Wednesday on trial, and played a five-a-side game for them.

Unfortunately for Wednesday and Francis, he joined Leeds before Francis had chance to see him "play on grass", in what has become a famous quote!

Here he is in for real in the repainted kit:

This figure has led to a few other Wednesday repaints! Watch this space!

Maradona, Spurs

Little known fact: Diego Armando Maradona played in a Testimonial game for Spurs in the mid '80s!

I enjoyed painting this one; it was quite a challenge tho!

Here's Diego in the Testimonial, which was in honour of Ossie Ardiles and was against Inter.

'Lovekin', Everton

customised corinthian prostars figure

Here's a real Everton legend!!

Well, he has probably the best collection of Everton corinthians going, which has to make him at least a bit of a legend!

I helped the buyer of this figure to find a suitable 'lookalike', and then painted it for him, into his favourite kit. He must quite like it, as it is now his facebook profile picture!

If you would like a similar service, get in contact by commenting here, on twitter or with a facebook message.

I can also do any park team/ five aside etc kits, as long as you can provide me with a picture.

Berg, Panathinaikos

Part of another order from one of my regulars from Greece, here's Marcus Berg of Panathinaikos.

Pleased with how I managed to get the transfer to line up with the hoops for the sponsor on this one!

Jenas, Spurs

Here's a repaint of Invisible England midfielder, Jermaine Jenas, as he was in his Spurs days.

I don't have much more to say about it really... the main reason I chose to post this one today was because I also have a tweet response that goes with it!

Quagliarella, Torino

I enjoy the variety that some orders give me.

I would never have painted Quagliarella into Torino kit had it not been requested, and yet, here it is! I'm pleased with how it turned out too!

The hardest part of this one was mixing the very distinctive colour of Toro's shirt!

... this pic makes me feel obliged to say: the customer made no request for a painted beard!

Tom Ince, Hull

Thomas Ince Hull Tigers custom figure

Here's a second Tom Ince repaint. I just can't resist using a Paul Ince figure to do these, especially as I tend to have a few knocking about.

This one went successfully on ebay.

If anyone wants any other Hull City repaints doing, just get in contact by leaving a comment here, on facebook, or on twitter.

(In case you wondered, the other Ince repaint was in Palace kit)

Monday, 6 October 2014

Merson, Portsmouth

Here's a recent request that I received, and I have to say, I'm very pleased with how it ended up!

Merson- in the kit that Portsmouth were promoted in, in 2003.

Here's the real Merse, to compare it to.

Incidentally, the customer described the paint job as "different class"! :)
