Yak Jensen and Stuart Pearce

I've recently been reading my copy of Glove Story 2, which, in case you didn't realise, is a book all about goalkeeping that features some of my repaints, as well as hand made mini glove bags! 

Even though I wouldn't particularly call myself a goalkeeping enthusiast, it's a cracking read, including some great stories that you may well have never heard before. 

Of course, there are many stories and points of interest, but a couple that stick in my mind as I write this are:

1. A team of English pro goalkeepers had a basketball match against the Harlem Globetrotters in the 1970s

2. The story that led to this figure:

Stuart Pearce loved playing in goal in his youth, and while he was semi pro at Wealdstone, he missed playing with his mates... so he registered as "Yak Jensen" with Dynamo Kingsbury Kiev! 

In Glove Story 2, Pearce reveals that he even chipped in with some goals, by going up for free kicks and corners, and occasionally dribbling out from the back!

I was asked to produce this remodel for the book, and was happy to do so. As you may have guessed, the kit didn't take long to paint!

I was going to end this post there, but thought- I've mentioned Wealdstone, why not stick another pic on as a bonus!

Another fairly simple repaint, but effective in it's simplicity! I also like the handpainted number. If I'm completely honest, I only attempted it because I'd printed the decal backwards, but I think it came out well!

Woodham Victoria, Part 2!

Sometimes, after I've done someone in a 'park team' kit, I'll have a little spell of doing a few more, as word gets round the dressing room!

Here are the next 2 Woodham Victoria players, including one in away colours!

For both of these, the buyer suggested a figure as a lookalike, and then sent me images of the kit, so I could get the likeness perfect.

Custom Subbuteo XL

I haven't posted one of these in a long time!

This subbuteo XL was done for a wedding favour, believe it or not! I think favour is the right word?!

It was a present for the groom, as the only football related thing he was allowed to have on the day! It was customised as him, in his Sunday League kit, including correct badges, and with his own name and number on the back:

These are easier to pick than Corinthian lookalikes, cos they all have the same face!!

Woodham Victoria

Here are a couple of Christmas Presents that I did!

Someone contacted me with 2 'lookalike figures' he had identified himself, and asked if I could paint them as 2 of his mates in their park team kits.

He sent me pictures, and chose the names, shirt numbers, boot colour and names for the bases.

Back to the Lazio kit this time!

In case you missed the backstory on these and were wondering who Carlyle and Anderson are, a customer has been getting Vivid Imaginations Figures done of all his old teammates from his Sunday League team!

They've had a few kits over the years, including the above Lazio one, a Newcastle one, a Sheff Weds one and (to be posted soon!) an Inter away kit!

All the figures have been customised with the right hair colour, customers choice of kit, and the right name and shirt number.

Charlton Villa, Part 2!

Here are the next few Charlton Villa repaints, in one customer's one man mission to seemingly get a figure of all of his team mates over the years!

As you can see, Charlton Villa had swapped to a pretty iconic Newcastle kit by this stage!

Robbie Fowler, or should I say 'Hawtree', arrived with me with that injury! The customer was happy to repair him himself upon return.

As you can see a fair bit of customisation had to go on with these guys, including stubble, changing hair colour... and for the top one, an all over skin colour change!! Believe it or not, that figure used to be Ian Wright!

Cranford, Vivid Imaginations Figures

I can't tell you much about the team: Cranford, if I'm honest.

What I can tell you is that one of their players loves Vivid Imaginations figures, and is very generous!!

One of my regulars asked me to do a Sheringham in a Spurs kit for him, and someone else saw it and asked me about them.

I said I was happy to use them as 'lookalikes' and the rest is history!

I must have painted half the guys he's played Sunday League with!!

Danby Rovers

One of my regular customers requested a figure of himself, which obviously I was happy to do, and then he showed it to his team mates, and 2 of them decided to get figures of their own!

Absolutely loved doing this order. 

A while back now, a guy approached me about doing figures for the children's team that he coached. Instead of medals, or trophies at the end of the season, he wanted to give them a figure each.

I loved the idea straight away, and soon, a deal was struck! Several messages discussing possible lookalikes, shirt numbers and boot colours later, I sent him 10 figures in  time for their end of season get together.

Recently, he sent me some pictures of the children's reactions, and if I'd been glad to take on the project beforehand, I was delighted when I saw these:

They have even used a picture of the figures as the banner on their website!

Really enjoyed doing this order! 

Someone contacted me through my facebook page asking me to do repaints for his two sons in their club kits.

We worked together to select the figures, and the only other thing he had to do was send me a picture of the kit!

The request also included personalised boot colour, names, numbers, a captain's band and even eye colour.

Carr Gate FC

Did these ages ago now, but thought I'd post them up anyway!

Part of an order requested Tony Yeboah and 'Jamie' Ndlovu in the Sunday League kit of Carr Gate FC.

As I've said before, as long as you can provide a picture of the kit, I am more than willing to do park teams, 5 a-side kits, or Non-league kits. These can be using 'look-alike' figures, or of a favourite player as a novelty item!
