The Final Sheffield United figures!

For the time being, at least, these are the last Sheffield United figures in my repaints album.

The guy I made them for had definitely got to a similar stage that I did with my own Leeds collection when he asked for a Jim Leighton; one loan spell with no first team games!! Hence the number 13 shirt.

A couple more nice figures here. I like the Phelan sculpt, and you don't see too many Alan Wright repaints, so they are always of interest.

A Sheffield United Trio

Hard to believe I'm almost at the end of the Sheffield United pics now! However, the guy that I did most of them for has been back in contact recently, asking if there are any other possibilities... and I've got 5 or 6 ideas!

Shipperley- difficult to get hold of, and then when you do, and repaint it gloriously, the first comment when it goes online is: looks more like Jimmy Carr. To be fair...

Yep... I'd rather keep Gary Speed in Leeds colours, tbh!

Last but not least, another rare-ish one, I think. Phil Thompson. Tricky badge on this (and a couple of other Sheff United figures. No shield or crest round it, just crossed blades and 'Sheffield United' straight on the shirt. Meant I had to be more precise with the decals than usual! Think I pulled it off tho!

The Next 3 Sheffield United players...

It's been a bleak old season for Sheffield United fans so far. Maybe a couple of corinthian repaints can raise their spirits!

All of these were done quite a while ago now

Vinnie Jones corinthian repaint sheff United

First up: Vinnie Jones. I think this one looks great. Certainly took a lot of work... and I have to say it, but I think I could do it even better now!

Those thin black stripes make it!

I love how the name and number look so clear on this one. Funny as, in real life, I'm not a big fan of shirts with striped fronts and plain backs... tho it does make the repaint easier!

Keith Gillespie scored a great goal in this kit, as I recall!

Last but not least: Lee Hendrie. Certainly a better likeness of him than the original figure, for my money! Not much else to say about this one really- pretty much a standard Sheffield United kit, and I was very well practiced in them at the time I painted this.

3 Sheff United figures

Here are 3 more Sheffield United figures.

Keith Curle custom Sheffield United Corinthan figure

Brian Deane custom sheffield united away corinthian

ugo ehiogu custom corinthian figure sheffield united

It's funny that, while it doesn't seem that long since I did these, I can see things about them that I think I would improve if I were to do them now, which is a good thing, I guess!

...

When I post pics of figures that I haven't done recently (as in, in the last 2 months) I can't remember anything interesting to say about them!!

4 Sheffield United Soccerstarz

These are the last 4 Sheffield United Soccerstarz in my repaints album that I haven't posted here yet.

There are still plenty of prostars tho!!

matt phillips sheffield united soccerstarz repaint

Doing this one was one of those occasions that taught me something new; namely that Matt Phillips played for Sheffield United!

kyle walker custom soccerstarz repaint sheffield united

This sentence is only here cos I felt I should write something about the Walker figure.

Stokes sheffield united soccerstarz repaint

Stokes is one of those players that I only have the vaguest knowledge of! Maybe I tried to take him on loan on Football Manager once... maybe he was quite good in the Scottish Premier League... (I'm purposely not googling here!)

I'm not even entirely sure what his first name is! I want to say Anthony... or Tony?!

jagielka custom sheffield united figure

And finally Jagielka. I certainly repainted him in a kit from hsi first spell at Bramall Lane before... I may have even posted a pic of him in this kit to this blog in the past (I'm sure I did 2)

What I can tell you for sure: He is the only one that is definitely in the right place in my attempt to order these chronologically!

A couple of Sheff United Microstars

It's been a tough return, post lockdown for Sheffield United... so naturally a post displaying some figures in Sheffield United kits will make them all feel better, right?!

Here's Dellas (No Filter!!) I can't remember what kit this was in originally, (Roma at a guess) but I remember it being a bit of a surprise to me that he'd played for the Blades, though I think I did have that knowledge somewhere in the recesses of my mind!

Anyway, a nice little repaint. A different coloured collar always helps to make a repaint look a bit sharper, I think!

And on to Beattie! Although I completed these both quite a while ago (at least a year, probably more) and the fact that I've stated I think I've really come on with stripes in recent times... this looks pretty good!

The Next 3 Sheffield United Figures!

Each time I add a new blog post, I think: It's probably time for some more Sheff U figures...

And then I don't add them because I can't think how to categorise them/ remember which kits they're in.

So today, I've taken the revolutionary step of adding the first 3 alphabetically!!

Earl Barrett Sheffield United corinthian figure repaint

Earl Barrett. Not the easiest figure to get hold of! Nice repaint... I think I've also done him in Sheff Weds colours(?!) I think my favourite part is the thin white stripes on the collar!

Peter Beagrie Custom Sheffield United repainted corinthian figure

Peter Beagrie. All about the Umbro signs on the numbers! You know by now that that's the kind of thing that pleases me!

Henri camara custom corinthian figure sheffield united

Henri Camara; one of several players that I wouldn't have known played for Sheffield United before repainting him. I mean, you could probably put the other 2 in this blog post in that category, to be fair!!

Peter Withe x2

Peter Withe is probably most famous for his time at Aston Villa. That's the kit Corinthian made him in, anyway!

A couple of my regulars asked me to repaint him, and the results were repaints of the kits he wore before and after Villa!

Peter Withe Newcastle custom corinthian repaint

I always find this body pose on figures a bit of a pain!! It's hard to do the side of the body without getting paint on the arm that's tucked right in! Especially with stripes!

The Sheffield United one also had a tricky badge, as it is the crossed blades logo, and Sheffield United written out, but not enclosed in any kid of shield. It was one of those times where I had to get the decal size exactly right, to the millimetre!!

Two decent jobs though I'd say, overall!

Sheffield United Soccerstarz

As promised! Here are some Sheffield United figures.

Soccerstarz today... I think they're in chronological order, but I can't be bothered to check!!

I have no idea where I took the picture of the Maguire figure!!

The Jagielka figure is of him in the current Sheff U kit- I did one of him in a kit from his early career a while back, but this one was requested after he re-signed last summer.

This is also the first post where I've used the '2020' tag!!

Thompson, Sheff U

One last fling at activating the blog post curse!

Sheffield United at home to Ipswich... I mean, there's a coupon buster in the making, am I right??!

*slowly starts to weep*

Anyway, here's one of the last figures available to the collector who I've been doing these for... although there are still quite a few others I haven't posted here anyway!

In case you didn't know (and I didn't before painting this) Phil Thompson had a 2 year stay at Sheffield United in the 1980s.

According to Wiki, he "couldn't settle", but still managed 37 appearances for the Blades before retiring.

...

COME ON IPSWICH!!

Leighton, Sheff Utd

You remember when I had that theory that posting pictures of a team on this blog jinxed that team?

Well, in case it's still working in any way, I'm thinking of posting Sheffield United players for the rest of the season!

Here's Jim Leighton

One for the 'completist' collector, this. Leighton joined the Blades on loan in the 92/93 season, but never actually played a game for them!!

Squad numbers weren't in use at that point, hence the educated guess at number 13, and of course, no name on the shirt.

I always enjoy painting a pinstriped kit!

And if Sheffield United lose to Ipswich on Saturday now, I'll know it's either down to this, or my lucky underpants!

Bardsley, Beattie and Cahill: Shefield United

Anyone who reads this regularly (anyone there?!) will know quite a few of my blogging nuances!

One is that I often post figures of a team that I want to lose that day, even though the 'every team I blog pictures of loses' theory only seems to work when I post a Leeds figure.

And another is that I have to have some kind of link between the figures when I post more than one picture.

So here, in matching Capital One sponsored shirts, are three players that represented one of Leeds' current promotion rivals... in shirt number order (habit number 3 exhibited in this post!)

Cracking! The Beattie is the most recent repaint, hot of the press, and finished within the last week!

Although I haven't blogged them all yet, I'm pretty close to finishing all the possible Sheffield United figures that were released (not including remodels, though I do have a couple of those in the pipeline!)

Keep your eyes on my Facebook page (I invariably post pictures there first) for upcoming posts of rarer Sheff United repaints, such as Alan Wright and Peter Withe!

Sheffield United 05/06

I think I'm right in saying that these are repaints of 2 players who featured in Sheff United's promotion season in 05/06:

They certainly fit "The Warnock Model", that being: sign any player that used to play in the Premier League and is willing to come!

A couple of nice repaints tho! I mentioned how much better I think I am at stripes these days in a previous post, but a plain backed shirt certainly makes things easier!!

As for the figures themselves; two things of note.

1. Shipperley was definitely carrying a bit more timber by the time he played for the Blades!!
2. What was Flitcroft thinking, taking the number 3 shirt?!

Kidd, Sheffield United Assistant Manager

Well, it's time to put the 'whichever team I post loses that day' theory to the test again.

I've had a look at the closest teams to Leeds in the league, and unfortunately, I don't have any new Norwich or WBA figures so sorry SUFC; it's you again!!

Brian Kidd was an assistant manager at Sheffield United for a while... I want to say under Brian Robson?!

I quite enjoy a coach repaint these days! The first one I ever did was Kidd at Leeds, but I have done some remodelled ones recently as well, in both Pro and Microstar form!

This one was quite nice and simple. I think the thin red stripes are what really make it work, And the club crest of course, which, depending on the body pose can be a bit of a squeeze on the upper body of some manager/coach figures, but is fine on this one.

Wow... there are a lot of hyperlinks in this post!!

Some Sheffield United Goalies

Here are two goalkeepers that a lot of people probably won't remember playing for Sheffield United!

As far as I'm aware, they are the only manufactured goalkeeper figures that did play for them.

Segers had a loan spell at Bramall Lane in the 1980s. I couldn't even find a picture of him in Sheff United kit!

In the end, I just found a team photo from the correct season, and used the one from there!

I don't know why, but I quite enjoy mixing a light grey for a kit!!

Segers made 10 appearanced for the Blades in this time. Mind you, he looks like a stalwart compared to Richard Wright!!

Wright signed up in 2010, but only stayed with the club for 4 months. He had a bad time with injuries, and only managed 2 starts. He didn't even manage to finish either game.

Two pretty plain kits here; it's hard to even see the grey trim on Wright's kit.

Sheffield United 96-97

I've said a few times that repainting has taught me about which clubs players have played for.

Here are a couple of Sheffield United players; one that I knew about in the deep recesses of my mind, and one that I didn't have a clue about!! (Not in that order... it has to be shirt number order of course!)

Oh, also... I have sometimes found that when I post figures of a team the day they are playing, they lose.

So... anything to give Leeds an edge in the race for promotion!!

Sheffield United 08/09 (Hendrie and Sun)

Big game in Sheffield tonight! So, here are a couple of United repaints:

If I'm honest, Sheffield United kits from around this era thoroughly confuse me! They seem to have the same kit... but with many different variants of the Visit Malta logo on them. There are even some that haven't made it onto historical kits!!

And then, you have to work out whether the back of the shirt is striped or plain! But I did in the end!!

Lee Hendrie, and Sun Jihai, who both had fairly short spells at Bramall Lane.

If you're a Wednesday fan, thinking: "Where's the balance?!", sorry, but I don't have many Wednesday repaints!! If you want  to put that right, get in contact with me, and I'm sure we can make an arrangement!

Sheffield United 04/05

Sheffield United are flying high in the Championship at the moment!

Here are a couple of repaints from their 04-05 season:

Sheffield United finished 8th that season.

These 2 players had fairly different careers at Bramall Lane; Harley joined on loan a couple of times, before going on to sign permanently and played over 50 games for the club.

Johnson only played for them once.

Speed, Sheffield United

One Gary Speed Prostar, one Gary Speed Microstar:

And that's it for today.

Some days the writing just doesn't flow, and today is one of those days.

Deane, Sheffield United... again!

He's proved pretty popular, as Sheffield United repaints go; the scorer of the Premier League's first ever goal: Brian Deane!

Here he is, home and away:

I've done 3 of the home kit now and (whisper it) I think they've gotten slightly better each time; well, practice makes perfect!

The other 2 Deane posts are here and here!

I've done the away kit twice now as well, but this is the first time I've put it on the blog, so keep your eye out for the other, as well as other Sheff United figures!

...

And if you just can't wait, have a look in the Sheffield United album on my Facebook page!
