Bolton Wanderers

Here are the last 5 Bolton Wanderers figures to be posted from my repaints album. I considered splitting them into a 2 and a three, but have all 5 as a Saturday treat!!

Comments below each pic... if I have something worth saying about them!!

I always liked Frandsen when I was a kid. I think it was just cos he scored a lot of goals, tbh!

This figure had a very minor remodel element- I filled in the gap in the v-neck in order to recreate the round neck that this shirt had.

This was the trickiest repaint of this set. Those dark lines do look a bit wonky... it's one of those times where the contours of the figure don't really do me any favours!

Also... white numbers on sky blue shirts: bleugh.

I really liked this one! Considering it was a pretty easy one too!

I mean, what can you say about a kit like this?! I don't know if the timings are correct on this, but to my mind, this is peak Barclay's Premiership Bolton!!

Bolton Centre forwards

I've got quite a few Bolton pics that I haven't posted yet, and, looking through them, decided that 'big battering ram centre forwards' was a suitable sub set for a blog post!

I like all of these! My twelve year old self was always very jealous of Bolton for having a cool sponsor like Reebok!

The Holdsworth repaint shows how I tackled one of the few things that still gives me a bit of bother, and that I'm still working on- what to do for round necked shirts when the original figure has a collar. I actually stuck a little bit of polyfiller in the gap, but the collar itself is a little chunkier than the ideal!

Two 1990s Bolton Boys!

2 Bolton figures today:

keith branagan corinthian repaint

Weren't 1990s keeper kits glorious?!
...
I have little more to say about this figure!

Eidur Gudjohnsen bolton corinthian repaint

And Gudjohnsen. I think I've posted pics of doing the same kit a while back... tho I haven't checked.

It's called 'Bolton Gudjohnsen 2' in my repaints folder anyway! In reality, it makes very little difference to the process, but there's something I like about the name being on a different coloured part of the shirt!

If you did search back through the posts to find the last Gudjohnsen, I'd be interested to know if I put exactly the same on the blog post!

3 Bolton Veterans!

Scrolling thro the repaint album showed I have a few Bolton figures still to post, so here are the first 3.

Today's link: all players that had reached... erm... a certain vintage by the time they played for Bolton!

Peter Beardsley Bolton Wanderers corinthian repaint

Emile Heskey custom Bolton Wanderers figure

Custom Figure aaron Wilbraham bolton wanderers

Funnily enough, despite how good they were at  the peak of their careers, I'd guess it's Wilbraham that's remembered most fondly by Bolton fans for his part in The Great Escape.

I actually finished the Beardsley and Heskey ones quite a long time ago (years) and looking at both, there are parts I think I'd manage to do better now.

Wilbraham was finished fairly recently (within the last 3 or 4 months- who can tell with lockdown...)

Bolton Wanderers 2005-07 kit

Here's a set of Bolton repaints from a recent order:

Stelios Giannakopoulos Bolton corinthian repaint

Okocha bolton wanderers custom corinthian figure

bolton wanderers custom corinthian figure el hadji diouf

amdy faye bolton wanderers custom corinthian figure repaint

bolton wanderers custom corinthian figure tal ben haim

bolton wanderers custom corinthian figure anelka

It's hard to know where to put the accompanying text when there are so many pictures!

I enjoyed these- a set of repaints that weren't too tricky, but look nice and sharp.

If you were wondering, the Faye figure is a lookalike, as Faye was never produced by corinthian.

One of the things I find interesting, is how different things are important for different people when it comest to their orders. For some, it's boots, others base colour, others want kit manufacturers on... the guy who ordered these (he's ordered from me before too) is the only person to consistently ask for wristbands on specific players!

Check out the Senegal colours wrist band on Faye!

One more thing; Bolton can also go in the squad numbers hall of shame!

2 Bolton Repaints

I chose these two figures for today's post, then realised I have very little to say about them...

Bruno N'Gotty Custom Bolton Wanderers corinthian figure

Erm... until I painted this, I didn't even know there was an N'Gotty figure! There's insight into my process for you!

Youri djorkaeff bolton wanderers corinthian repaint

And... er... I think this is the second time I've done a Djorkaeff Bolton figure.

Also... I... it... I used humbrol number 104 for the dark blue.

Hope you all enjoyed this post!! Let's be honest, the blog posts are all about the pictures anyway!

If a picture is 1000 words, then this post is about 2100!!

3 Bolton aways

Even after a month of blogging 2 out of every 3 days, I've still got hundreds of pictures to put up! Plus loads of figures on my desk, meaning more photos soon to be added to that file.

This all made me think I'd better get back to three or four photo blog posts!

Here are some Bolton away kits:

For some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, I love the McGinlay one! Maybe it's just nostalgia; I was always so jealous of Bolton having a cool sponsor like Reebok when I was a kid!!

Also, by my 10 (ish) year old logic, McGinlay scored loads of goals for the worst team in the Premier League, so the teams in the top 5 should have a look at him, cos he'd definitely score more for them!

Observations on the others, I enjoy a figure where the hairstyle covers the name!! And I'm glad that Stelios chose that for his shirt, rather than Giannakopoulos!

A few Bolton aways

I haven't posted any Bolton players to this blog since 2018!! And that very much doesn't tally with the amount of Bolton repaints I've done since.

So, here are 3, all wearing away kits.

As you may know if you've read a few of my blog posts in the past, I do love a pinstripe kit... when it goes well!! I feel this one did!!

Not a great deal to say about this one. I like the colour..?! I'll tell you what was noticeable doing Bolton kits; how many different fonts and logos Reebok have had over the years!!

I think this was from the playoff final. I was just surprised that Nolan ever wore a number other than 4!!

2 Versions of Ferdinand, Bolton

I was going to do this post on Saturday, but never got round to it.

The reason I was going to do this on Saturday was that I've noticed something of a trend that, when I post pics of s team the day they are playing, they tend to go on and lose.

Fortunately, they lost anyway, and my beloved Leeds made it 5 wins in a row!

But I thought I wouldn't deprive you of these Bolton Ferdinands any longer anyway!

A fairly straightforward kit! I added a few more details to the VI figure, such as the Reebok logo, and BWFC on the socks.

I tend to leave some of these details off the corinthians for a few reasons- it makes them more similar to the originals, and the shirt can look a bit overcrowded with them all on being the main ones.

I have added them in the past when requested tho!

Speed, Bolton

Gary Speed: My first favourite player as a child.

I'm always happy to take on a Gary Speed repaint, even if it means painting him out of Leeds kit.

I've done him in a few different Leeds kits, as well as Sheffield United, but this was the first time as a Bolton player.

This was one of those times that a simple, straightforward paint job gave the figure a really crisp look. Sometimes less is more!

Worthington, Bolton

Haven't done a Bolton pic in a while so:

A Bolton fan had thought of this lookalike himself, and I'd say it's a pretty good one; I can't even remember who the original is! (Fairly sure it's an Austrian player, but I can't think who!)

The Umbro logos down the sleeve were the biggest challenge!

This figure also underwent a minor remodel- it was short sleeved when it arrived with me, so I used some miliput to change them to long sleeves.

Djorkaeff, Bolton

There were a few things that I couldn't get my head round with Youri Djorkaeff when I was a kid.

The first was: why shirt number 6, obviously... then later in his career it was: why has he joined Bolton Wanderers?!

But he did! And I could do this repaint as a result!

Gary Speed, Bolton Vivid Imaginations figure

The fact that the facial likenesses on Vivid Imaginations figures aren't perfect always gives a bit of leeway with finding 'lookalikes'!

A Bolton fan asked me to do this one as Gary Speed, and I was happy to oblige.

RIP Gary xxx

Les Ferdinand, Bolton

Here's a figure I just decided to do as I had a spare Ferdinand in my box of figures.

This, along with a recent few Bolton orders showing me that there was a bit of demand, was enough to make this happen.

I think it ended up going on ebay!

Gudjohnsen, Bolton

So, my blog posts may be a bit shorter recently, and infrequent... sorry about that!

Since I started teaching again, I just don't have the same amount of time to dedicate to my figures!

I figured (ha!) that it's better to get the pics up with less detailed posts and links than to not get them up at all.

With that in mind, here's Gudjohnsen, in his first Bolton spell.

Heskey, Bolton

Considering the... status(?) that Heskey has among football fans, and the number of clubs he's played for, it's somewhat surprising that I've never done a repaint of him until now!

Here he is in Bolton colours:

This was part of a little spate of Bolton figures that I did, including the Lofthouse that I blogged a few days ago, and some others you'll see soon, if you keep your eyes on the blog!

I love the trim round the collar and cuffs. Definitely something I wouldn't have even attempted in the past!

A pleasing repaint overall!

Lofthouse, Bolton

I absolutely love 1950s/60s figure repaints!

I've done a Stanley Matthews Blackpool figure, a Tom Finney Preston one, and here's a player held in similar regard at his own Lancashire club:

Nat Lofthouse, in Bolton's 1958 FA Cup Final kit.

There's something about the simplicity of kits from this era that I love!

I was happy with the clean lines on the collar and cuffs. The badge and accurate number font mean that, in spite of the lack of modern names sponsors etc, this figure is very distinctive.

Love it!

Beardsley, Bolton

How many Peter Beardsley figures have I done now?! The man had more clubs than a golfer!!

I've now done him in Hartlepool, Vancouver Whitecaps and Man City kits! (Tho I don't think I've posted the pic of the City one yet.) Adding this Bolton repaint to that number makes him, somewhat surprisingly, my most repainted figure... I think!

Beardsley had a brief spell with Bolton towards the end of his career, where he made *Wiki stats warning* 21 appearances and scored twice.

This figure is currently available for sale! Comment here, or message me on Facebook or Twitter if you are interested!
