Tenuous Euros post, part 5

I'm back to kind of, sort of Euro 2020 related figures today! It's going to be a pundit special... cos I've exhausted my backlog of still active players!

Ian Wright, in his Palace days. You've got to love Wright's punditry... I can't remember the exact phrasing, but the way he described Saka's performance the other day was great! Gloriously purposeful, or something like that?!

EDIT: Found it, it was "Burdened with glorious purpose!"

On the flip side, Danny Murphy said "He looks a good keeper," about Donnarumma. That's the Donnarumma who's got 250 career appearances at 22, and is off to PSG this summer...

Anyway, here's a figure of Danny Murphy for Spurs that I painted years ago!!

You can tell how old this one is because i) it's definitely not my current standard ii) even the photography skills weren't as good back then!! and iii) the dead giveaway; I used to leave white boarders around the pics! That's the giveaway.

And last but not least:

Let's throw in another Shearer! I can't think of any specific examples of Shearer's recent punditry... other than picking Turkey as a dark horse... but I quite like him!

Lombardo, Palace

One of those: "Sorry, what?!!" transfers in the late 1990s was Attilio Lombardo to Crystal Palace.

Strange goings on in the board room, and an unsuccessful stint as player manager aside, Lombardo was class on the pitch for them.

As far as I'm aware, he's still a popular figure with Palace fans, and was voted into their Centenary Greatest XI, in spite of a relatively short time with the club. All of this would explain someone wanting a repaint of him anyway!

The chosen kit was Palace's away shirt from the 1997-98 season.

Loftus-Cheek, Palace

This was another Christmas present!

There aren't any Prostar figures of Loftus-Cheek, so with input from the guy that wanted it, I chose a lookalike, and repainted it as RL-C, including changing the name on the base.

Cabaye, Palace

Another Christmas present, this one; a lookalike figure to make Yohan Cabaye.

This Palace kit was an interesting and fairly tricky one to do! Almost every repaint of a striped shirt that I've done has been symmetrical, but this kit isn't.

I'll quickly add that it's meant to be asymmetrical and this wasn't just a painting error!

Apart from that, I had the usual job for lookalike figures of filling the base and printing the new name on. I also had to change the hair colour, and do the beard.

Here's Cabaye:

Ian Wright, Palace

Gotta say; I'm a big fan of this one:

Obviously every repaint is significant to the person who orders it, but when I received this order, I just thought; yeah, that's one that should be made!

I was also delighted with how it turned out- from a technical perspective, getting the sponsors perfectly lined up on striped kits is one of the harder things to do. The badge fits perfectly into the stripe on the shirt too!

The basic message is: I was happy with this!!

Ian Wright seemed to like it too!

Speroni, Palace

I've not done many Crystal Palace figures thus far... if I remember rightly, the only one I'd done before this was Tom Ince, and fortunately I managed to offload it on ebay before his unsuccessful loan expired!

No such problem with this one, which was a private order.

I had to use a lookalike figure for Speroni, but feel that it's a pretty good one!

The side view that I added to the image above was purely to show off the beard!

Speroni did this double thumbs up after seeing the repaint*

*this is a lie.

Tom Ince, Palace

I painted this way back in the January transfer window, and realised that, as I hadn't already posted it, I'd better get on and do it, before it becomes completely irrelevant.

I can't help but feel that Ince won't be at Palace next season after his far from sparkling loan spell.

Another reason this repaint came to mind was, on the day his loan move was agreed, someone on talk sport (hilariously) suggested he could book himself on the plane to the World Cup. I know, right?!

Anyway, I like the repaint. The kit was quite an interesting one to do, the white numbers show up well, and I think the red 'under-armour' adds something.

Admittedly the figure doesn't look that much like him, but I couldn't resist using the Paul Ince figure, especially because I had one in my big box!

In case you are wondering, this repaint was successfully ebayed. Get in touch if you'd like a Paul Ince as Tom Ince of your own! Maybe even back in Blackpool kit!!
