Newcastle XLs

Here are 2 hot off the press! 2 Newcastle XL repaints, of 2 great number 9s.

I was a big fan of this kit at the time. I think, at least in part, that was because it looked like Newcastle might beat Man Utd to the title!

I was a little bit surprised that this kit was chosen for this repaint; my main memory is of Shearer recovering from a bad injury in this kit. Admittedly, this might be a mis-remember!

I also never liked the shield on the back; a friend of mine at school had it, and I always thought it looked stupid if you didn't get a number put on it.

In terms of the figure, this had some minor elements of remodelling; the original was in an England kit, with a collar, so I had to sand that down a bit, and then fill in the remaining 'v-neck' part. Ended up looking pretty good, I think.

2 Newcastle legends

Here are a couple of figures that, considering their popularity, it's a bit of a surprise that I have never painted in Newcastle kit before.

Keegan and Gazza:

I enjoyed both of these. The most difficult areas were the collars!

I also took a little bit of license with the badges- if I recall correctly, the badges are entirely contained within the stripes on the original shirts, so I just made them a little bigger so they showed up well.

Hope you like them!

Peter Withe x2

Peter Withe is probably most famous for his time at Aston Villa. That's the kit Corinthian made him in, anyway!

A couple of my regulars asked me to repaint him, and the results were repaints of the kits he wore before and after Villa!

I always find this body pose on figures a bit of a pain!! It's hard to do the side of the body without getting paint on the arm that's tucked right in! Especially with stripes!

The Sheffield United one also had a tricky badge, as it is the crossed blades logo, and Sheffield United written out, but not enclosed in any kid of shield. It was one of those times where I had to get the decal size exactly right, to the millimetre!!

Two decent jobs though I'd say, overall!

Keegan's entertainers; the last bit?!

A while back, I put up a post with loads of figures in one picture (I think) largely beacuse they were all in the same kit... and partly because when that's the case, sometimes I can't be bothered photographing them separately.

Anyway, here's what I think will be the last part of the set:

Firstly, here's the man himself! Keegan was released as Newcastle manager, but this customer wanted the official tracksuit, rather than the plain one Corinthian produced. And looking at the results, who can blame him!!

I do like putting the initials on when doing coaches and managers!

Unless I'm mistaken, McDermott was KK's assistant at the time, and wore the away kit for the team picture, which I think is why this one was requested. (He actually played for Newcastle in the 70s- long before this kit!)

It was one of those repaints that I had to think pretty hard about, and involved some 'on shirt mixing' but I loved how it turned out, as did the buyer!

Last but not least, Keith Gillespie he wasn't part of the first set, just because he's harder to come by than the others, I think! I've done this kit loads now!

Newcastle Keepers

New Year... probably same me when it comes to blog posts!!

Still, let's start the new year off with a bang. Well, 5 pictures anyway, and what a great post if you're a Newcastle fan, or part of the Goalkeeper's Union!!

Not often that I stick 5 pics in one post, is it?!

A few comments: There was no John Burridge figure- I used a lookalike to make the first one, and as soon as I finished, and put it on Instagram, someone asked for another!

That green kit for Given and Shaka ended up quite nicely. It was a relatively simple but effective one; I think the adidas stripes on the inside of the arm were a new thing for me!!

And as for the last one, well, hopefully he'll be appearing in a book this year! He was done for the writer of Glove Story, along with a few other figures for the sequel! Excited to see that, hopefully later this year!

Keegan's Entertainers

Erm... not feeling very wordy, soooo... how about pics of loads of figures?!

Here are Newcastle's Entertainers!

A guy went and ordered pretty much the whole team, didn't he?! And for some reason, I forgot to include Peter Beardsley in the group pics!!

I was happy with these! You'll probably know how much I like accurate number fonts by now, but I was very happy with how the Brown Ale Star sponsor looks as well!

The most awkward aspect of these was the players who were already in Newcastle kits had round necked shirts, which didn't particularly lend themselves to having collars painted on!!

Newcastle 95-96 away... the last bit!

The final post... for now, of Newcastle's iconic mid-90s hooped away kit, and I'll even throw in the keeper kit for good measure!

I loved the challenge of painting Hislop's change kit, and have to say, I think I did a better job of it than was done on the original Corinthian version of David James!

As for the others... I think I've reached the stage where I could do this kit in my sleep!! Tho I probably shouldn't attempt that...

Newcastle aways all done... until someone else sees them and thinks: I fancy some of those!!

Newcastle 95/96 away... part 3!

I've already talked about this kit in previous posts!!

Loved it, enjoyed painting it, lets have a look at the last set (in shirt number order!)

Three pics this time- it leaves me enough to make one more post of Newcastle 95/96 kits!

I'm not certain on the 2 number 10s situation... all I know for sure is that Ferdinand started in 9, and then moved to 10 to accommodate Shearer.

I'm guessing that this shirt was used (maybe as a third kit?!) for the next season as well.

Newcastle 95/96 away, part 2

My last Newcastle 95/96 away blog post contained all the figures I had done in that kit at the time!

Now, I think there is also going to be a part 3!

Let's crack on!!

Whoa! Look at them all!! (shirt number order, of course!)

If you're wondering about the missing number 7 and 8, Lee and Beardsley can be found in this post!

You can see why this kit is popular with Newcastle fans, including that it was worn in an era where they had some great players and were very enjoyable to watch!

Also, just thought I'd point out: I did do the white Adidas stripes on the sleeves and shorts, but you can only sort of see them on some of these pics!!

Shearer and Batty, Newcastle

So, a quick look down my recent post reveals no Newcastle figures in recent weeks, so here are a couple!

Batty and Shearer:

I remember at the time thinking that the shield to have the number inside was pretty smart... but it looked weird if you didn't get a number printed in it!

Loads of away kit repaints from the same season to come!

Newcastle 2007

I've had a lot of orders for Newcastle figures recently. Most of them have been in the iconic 1996 away kit, but here are a few more recent figures:

I was pleased with how they turned out- I especially like the backs for some reason!!

Given, Newcastle

Shay Given Newcastle repaint, in a kit he wasn't released in.

It's always harder to put a date to the goalie kits, if you don't know them, cos they aren't on historical kits!!

Judging by the sponsors on the above link, though, it's sometime between 1997 and 2000!

Newcastle 95-96 away

Absolutely loved this kit as a child, and was happy with the chance to paint it!

Observations:

Hoops are harder to paint than stripes!

Painting around a circular sponsor is a pain in the backside!

As ever, I was glad to find the correct shirt number font!

Charlton Villa, Part 4 (Newcastle kits)

Here's the latest installment of the Charlton Villa set of figures I did for a returning customer.

Charlton Villa were his Park team, meaning they wore  few different kits over the years! The players are all 'lookalike' figures of his teammates!

Owen, Newcastle Microstar

Here's a Michael Owen Newcastle repaint in a fairly uncommon kit!

The guy who asked for it said it was basically one to reminisce over; he had this shirt himself with 10 and Owen on the back when he was younger!

He even joked that it was hard to find a pic of Owen wearing it for me to use for the repaint!

Anyway, it ended up ok, and he was happy with it!

Posting this I was surprised to see it's only my third Newcastle repaint. Come on Newcastle fans! Come ask for some more from me!

Newcastle custom figure

Here's another of those completely custom jobs that occasionally comes up.

A customer wanted a figure of his mate, so he sent me a pic, and I gave him a shortlist of lookalikes, before we settled on this one.

From there, he told me all the features he wanted, including the exact kit (a classic, btw!) name and shirt number, name on the base, hair and even earrings!

I love how it turned out, and the customer commented that he couldn't believe how much it looked like its recipient!

The highlights were... um... a particular highlight!

'Humes' Newcastle Goalie kit

repainted corinthian figure

Here's an interesting request I got for an order a short while back.

The request was from a man who wanted a figure of his teenage son!

I found 3 possible 'lookalike' figures, and he chose this one himself.

Then I let him decide on all the details that he wanted: kit, name and shirt number, and even boots!

If you would like a similar service, get in touch : )

(In case you are wondering, the original figure is Branagan)
