Twenty Years of Nike and Arsenal kit

When I first saw the promotional 20 years of Nike and Arsenal kit, I thought: I have to have a go at that!

Then came the decision of which figure to do it on. There were many candidates... but the only Arsenal player that I had kicking about was Tony Adams! (I also have about 50 thousand David Seamans, but thought he would need a 20 year goalie kit instead!)

In any case, who would be a better model for this kit than Mr Arsenal himself??

While it's not perfect, I was fairly pleased with the paint job. For those who haven't worked this out, it is quite an intricate and tricky kit to paint on a 7cm figure!

I may be getting another chance to practice this one soo...

Gilberto Silva Reply

I originally blogged my Gilberto Silva repaint quite a while ago but, as you'll know if you pay close attention to this blog, I occasionally resurrect a post if I get a response from a player on twitter.

Here's what Silva had to say:

Short and sweet!

There's something I love more about a reply than a RT, and this is my first from a World Cup winner!!

Bale, Spurs

As you may have noticed (or been told by me if you follow my facebook page) this Bale repaint was my first Kodoto figure.

Judging by this one, there are both pros and cons with Kodotos. Perhaps most importantly, the facial likeness is outstanding, imo.

On the other hand, I wasn't over keen on the moveable arms and head, and the base felt pretty thin and plasticy. It also said 'Kodoto' instead of the player's name.

I put the name on the base for my customer, and also had to do an all over skin repaint! Gareth looked a tad too orange to begin with!!

Without doubt tho, I prefer Kodotos to Fan Favourites. The size (very similar to Prostars) also gives them the edge over Soccerstarz in my eyes.

Lukaku, Everton away

OK, let's deal with the elephant in the room: when I painted this, Lukaku had the hair! He also still wore number 17! I have just been sitting on the photo for a while!
(Not literally)

I like the boots on this one!

Scales, Spurs

John Scales, who jilted Leeds at the altar to join Spurs at this point in his career!

In fairness to him, he did end up winning some silverware there...

This seems to be the best pic I can find of him in this kit!

I got a reply from John on twitter about this one too- thought it might be on the cards when I noticed his profile pic was a Corinthian Figure of him in Liverpool colours!

Luis Garcia, Panathinaikos

Another from the order of Greek Super League figures that I received a while back.

I give you: Luis Garcia!

Gary Kelly, away 1993-95

When I bought a David Robertson figure to repaint, the guy I bought it from very generously threw in an extra Gary Kelly!

So, what to do with it? I thought about his debut kit, but to be honest, it was one in which he made very little impact. Then I thought of the 93-94 home kit- the first that I owned... but I'd already painted that on Yeboah.

Then I had the idea for this one- a first time painting this kit, which added to its appeal, and a different shirt number too!!

I also had a poster of Kelly in this kit on my wall as a kid!

Figueroa, Panathinaikos

Luciano Figueroa, of Panathinaikos, done using a lookalike figure.

Here he is, looking considerably happier!

Yeah... I don't have so many interesting tidbits to add for these Greek Super League players!
