Benjani, City

Another lookalike, to build the Man City collection of one of my regular customers!

It's Benjani Mwaruwari, in the 2009-10 season kit.
...
I had to spell check Mwaruwari; on my original attempt, the spelling suggestion came up as aquarium!

Luckily for me, he had Benjani on his shirt, and that's what the customer wanted on the base!

Without further ado, here's a picture of him in action!

Deadly Ledleyx2, Spurs

Here are a couple of Soccerstarz repaints of Spurs legend Ledley King:

The kits chosen were the dark blue away kit worn for Ledley's testimonial game, and a purple away kit, worn in the latter part of his Spurs career.

I'm quite a fan of dark blue and light blue together on kits! I've recently done  another Man City repaint on which it also looks very effective! Keep an eye out for it!

Purple on the other hand... well, it's a pain to mix! The customer was happy with this one in the end though!

Here's a pic of the Testimonial game:

... and one of the purple kit in action!

Joachim, Leeds

A bit of a golden oldie, this one!

I painted it ages ago, but in trying to vary the teams that I post, figures sometimes get lost among the hundreds of photos that I have saved in my 'repaints' folder!

This was quite a simple repaint, of a relatively plain kit; I think that's why I took a photo of the side view; just to show a bit of colour!

Here's a pic of Joachim in his fairly unremarkable spell at Leeds:

England, Euro 2000; the next 3!

Here are another trio of Euro 2000 repaints!

These 3 have nice, neat round necks, as the figures didn't have moulded collars making things awkward!

Ljungberg, Celtic

Here's another unusual kit! I think the Celtic away kit repaints have given me some of the biggest challenges!

This is an away kit from 2010. It was pretty tough, and, to be honest, while I think it's quite good, it frustrated me that I couldn't do it even better.

The customer was happy with it though, and that's the most important thing!

Ljungberg's Celtic career was short and... not overly sweet! He signed after a successful trial period, played 8 games without scoring, and then moved on to the J-League.

Here's an image of the shirt, for those who don't recognise it:

Tacchinardi, Juventus

This is the second time I've done this figure; using a lookalike to make Tacchinardi in the 1997 Juventus European Cup final kit... if I remember rightly!

I don't have much to say about it to be honest, other than I think it looks pretty slick!!

Here's the kit:

In case you haven't picked this up from previous posts, pics like this come from historical kits. It has been invaluable to me on my repainting journey!

Micro Ginola x2, Spurs!

Spurs again, Ginola again!

This is the second time I've done a blog post featuring 2 figures of the popular Frenchman; in fact, it's pretty much the same as a post I made a while back, only in microstar form!

I don't have much to say really, other than it includes the standard one home, one away figure!

It was also one of those times where the hair meant no name on the back of the shirt for this figure!

One other point of interest- adidas stripes! No mean feat on a microstar.

Smith x2, Leeds

Here are a couple of Alan Smith figures done in different kits; one Microstar, one Pro.

The first one is part of my own collection. I already owned all of the Smiths released by Corinthian, and this one, which I had already repainted.

Because of this, I went with the Whyte and Mackay kit from our relegation season for this one; terrible season for the club, but a pretty good season for Smith in terms of personal performance.

The second figure was for a customer who just said: Do it in a kit that wasn't released!

I chose this kit, as it is what he was wearing when he scored perhaps his best goal for Leeds- the impudent chip at the end of a brilliant team move against Anderlecht in the Champions League.

'Rugg' Portsmouth

Here's another lookalike figure that was requested for a Christmas present!

I present to you 'Rugg' of Portsmouth!

I worked with the buyer to find a lookalike that he was happy with, and everything else is completely customised- he picked the kit, the name and number on the back, the name on the base... you name it!

If you would like a custom figure of your very own, please do contact me! You can comment here, or get me on facebook or Twitter!

England, Euro 2000: the next 3!

Without further ado, here are the next 3 in the England Euro 2000 series!

In my opinion, it's pretty surprising that none of these were manufactured in this kit in the first place, especially Scholes!

He scored a hat-trick against Poland in qualifying, and also got the crucial goals in the play-off against Scotland!

My thoughts on the actual painting of this kit were posted on the previous set of Euro 2000 figures, so if you want to know them, click here, rather than making me repeat myself!!

Spurs 2010-11

As I did with the 2012-13 Spurs figures, and the ones in the chocolate brown away kit, here are 3 that I've put together on account of them wearing the same kit:

...in number order, of course!

This shirt was a good one to paint! Fitting the dark blue, with a thin diagonal stripe and still having enough room to fit the badge- especially as these are microstars- gave me something to think about, and I enjoyed doing it.

The shorts were a bit tricky too, partly due to the body poses of these figures.

Pienaar was also one of those times where long hair made it impossible to fit a name on too. I prefer to keep the number the correct size, when possible in instances like this!

Anyway, here's the kit (via true colours football kits):

Burchill, Celtic

Here's Mark Burchill in a snazzy Celtic away kit!

If you follow my blog much, or my facebook page, you may have already seen a version of Ian Wright in this kit

There's a third player repainted into it coming soon!

Mark Burchill was a bit of a funny one for Celtic. I may be wrong here, but I think I remember him being referred to as 'the Scottish Michael Owen' when he first came on the scene, but it didn't quite work out like that.

Saying that, Harpal Singh didn't really turn out to be Leeds' Michael Owen either...

Burchill played 50 times for Celtic scoring 20 goals, before a few loan spells, and a few spells at smaller English and Scottish clubs. He's now a player coach at Livingston.

Kolo Toure, City

This is the second time I've repainted a Kolo Toure figure in City kit (here's the first) and I'm always glad if the second time is a different kit!

This is another time where a relatively simple kit ended up looking effective!

Even the white numbers look ok!

EDIT: Just realised I've put up the wrong photo! The socks aren't the same... I must look ridiculous!

RotR

When I first started repainting, one of the kits ideas that I was keen on trying was doing some Roy of the Rovers figures.

Melchester had interesting and iconic kits, that gave me something a little different from the Leeds figures that I started off with.

I did 50s, 70s and 80s versions early in my repainting 'career'!

I actually painted this one ages ago, but found it in my photos folder on my laptop, and a quick check confirmed that I hadn't posted it on the blog yet!

It ended up selling on ebay!

Taylor, Leeds

Here's one of those figures where the effort put into it was probably greater than the effort expended by Taylor in his Leeds career!

That's not meant to be a slight on Taylor, who I rated quite highly. However, he only made 3 starts in his spell with LUFC.

This figure on the other hand, took weeks of tracking down, and watching and waiting for on ebay! It's also in the Alan Wright league of disproportionate cost of figure to first team action ratio!

Anyway, I do like the repaint, and am glad I made the effort!

Here's a picture of the lesser spotted Taylor!

The hair on the figure doesn't quite match his look at Leeds either!

I feel like I need to say again, I do like this repaint!!

Spurs 12-13

Here are a few Spurs Soccerstarz figures that only needed slight adjustments!

I thought I'd put them all in the same post, being as they're all in the same kit. Here are Kaboul, Dembele, Sigurdsson and Caulker:

If I remember rightly, I had to change the shorts, and add the blue trim to the shirts and socks.
...
When adding the pictures to this blog post, they didn't come up in number order, so I had to delete them, and add them again.

Here's a picture of the kit to compare it to... worn by none of the players I repainted!

England: Let the Euro 2000 figures commence!

So, you've seen World Cup '98, Euro '96 and Italia '90 repaints on this blog; here come the Euro 2000 ones... in number order, of course!

If these series of England repaints have taught me one thing, it's that Martin Keown went to way more tournaments than I remembered! And that Corinthian didn't expect him to!

This kit was fairly simple to repaint. The thin white stripe on around the collar and cuffs being the most interesting bit!

I also was able to use the spot on shirt number font, which you'll know pleases me if you've followed this blog for a while!

I had it from when I did this Michael Bridges repaint for a Leeds fan, who wanted to commemorate Bridges' u21 caps!

Here's the kit (via historical kits):

Cabaye, Palace

Another Christmas present, this one; a lookalike figure to make Yohan Cabaye.

This Palace kit was an interesting and fairly tricky one to do! Almost every repaint of a striped shirt that I've done has been symmetrical, but this kit isn't.

I'll quickly add that it's meant to be asymmetrical and this wasn't just a painting error!

Apart from that, I had the usual job for lookalike figures of filling the base and printing the new name on. I also had to change the hair colour, and do the beard.

Here's Cabaye:
