Mixed Spurs

Another mixed post; let's do it! I haven't even checked who's up next in the Spurs section of my repaint album...

Well, we've definitely reached the stage where repaints that I don't think of as old were done at least 3 or 4 years ago.

This one, for example. I know lockdown has made a lot of things feel 3 or 4 years ago, but one thing I know for sure is: it's been quite a while since I took my photos in the location this one is in. You'll notice the sort of leafy wallpaper in the background of the newer ones!

But also, this is not so old that I look at it and immediately see 5 or 6 things I'm unhappy with!!

Note the wallpaper!! Fairly simple one this, though.

Aaaand 3 more that are a bit older. Aside from all the painting improvements, I've also got much better at photographing them!!

Hope this post cheers up any Spurs fans that see it a bit!

EDIT: Didn't realise til I started adding the tags- there are 3 different kinds of figures in here! 4 if you want to get even more picky about the figure types... which I generally don't!!

Woodgate, Spurs

To prove I was telling you the truth yesterday, here are 2 Spurs Woodgates!

I don't really have much to say about them, to be honest!! Other than you'd struggle to know that they were the same person, based on the differences of these 2 sculpts!

Woodgate x2, Leeds

I haven't posted in a few days (apols- been under the weather!) so here is a post that very much reflects my: if in doubt, chip away at the Leeds or Spurs backlog of pics in my repaints album!

Woodgate played for both, of course, but I've gone with 2 Leeds ones here (tho I'm sure I have painted him in spurs kit too)

The yellow kit is one of my faves in real life, and tho I can tell it's an old-ish repaint, I think I've done a decent job!

Maradona, Boca Juniors

Happy Sunday everyone!

Here are a couple of Maradona repaints:

I've done this one a few times now, but these are the most detailed ones, so I picked them for the blog post.

I don't usually add kit manufacturers or shorts numbers, but they were requested for these. Tho it's not my usual style, I'm happy to add them when requested.

If you look carefully at the top one, you'll even notice the Puma king boots!

For the uninitiated, this post is also a good illustration of the difference between 'normal' corinthian prostars (top) and Fan Favourites (bottom pic)

Bianchi and Recoba, Torino

I haven't posted any 'overseas' figures for a while, so here are a couple of Torino players.

I did both of these quite a while ago. The one thing that jumps out at me about this one- I can see that the number 9 is hand-painted. Other than that, it's pretty standard!

This one is definitely more recent than the first. Something that I find myself pondering with this one is that with all the other diagonal 'sash' kits that I've painted (River, LA Galaxy), I'm sure it goes from left shoulder to right hip; ie the opposite way to this one. I don't know if that's usual, and I've probably never thought about it until now!

I might not have considered it at all, if i hadn't just finished a load of River Plate soccerstarz. Pics up soon, when I've had it confirmed that they've arrived in the US.

Cudicini, Spurs

My mantra for life has always been: "Don't know what to blog about? Stick up a picture of Carlo Cudicini in an orange kit!"

It's never really come in useful before, but today, it's a really valuable nugget of wisdom!

So here he is!

I really like this one! I'm not certain, but I think it could also be the first time that I did a bit of colour mixing on the shirt. ( the grey bits)

Pretty basic here, but it's something that I have developed and used since, including on what is possibly my best ever figure.

Anyway, happy Wednesday. Remember my advice in the future!

Ronaldo, Juve

I hear Juventus made quite a big signing this summer...

I had a request for Cristiano Ronaldo Fan Favourite Figure in his new Juventus kit a few weeks ago.

When I started on it, it seemed much whiter than normal for a Juventus kit!

I think it turned out well... and as much as I complain about shirts that are striped on the front and plain on the back in real life, it does make them easier to paint!!

And a footnote... this is yet another kit with six sets of tiny Adidas stripes to do (2 each on sleeves, shorts and socks) For some reason there have been loads recently!!

Maradona

Well, my laptop is back from the repair shop!! In truth this only partly explains the huge gap between blog posts, but what better way to celebrate getting it back than with... a new blog post!

Here are some Diego Maradona repaints:

The two teams are Argentinos Juniors, and Boca Juniors.

Clearly the absence has not adversely affected my ability to write sharp and to the point blog posts...

Defoe, Sunderland

Here's a repaint that I did using a figure from my box of spares... basically cos I thought it might sell on eBay!

Jermaine Defoe in this year's Sunderland kit!

I was pleased with how it ended up. I thought the gold trim on the kit looks good!

It didn't sell on eBay, so if you're interested in it, just get in contact with me!

Come on Sunderland fans!

Spurs, 2010-11 Champions League campaign

Moments ago, I started writing a fairly lengthy paragraph about selecting photos and losing track of which I'd posted here, as opposed to my facebook page. Then I decided that wasn't worth the time it took to read!

Here are some Spurs Champions League 2011 kit repaints:

A couple of things to notice; the Luka Modric figure is a custom remodel (not done by me!!) I just repainted it.

I also really like that I used the correct shirt number font that Spurs only used in Europe. I love that kind of detail in making a really authentic repaint.

Other than that... well, I've put them here in shirt number order, obviously!!

I think this might also be the largest number of figures I've put into a single blog post!

500th Post!

So, I've made it to 500 blog posts!

I thought I'd use this one to look back at some of my first figures, as a way of looking at how far I've come on my repainting journey!

Here we go:

First Prostar:

First Microstar:

First Soccerstarz:

First Fan Fave:

While looking back, I think I always acquitted myself pretty well with new figures, I think I have come a long way!! I can definitely see the improvement, anyway!

At very least, I take clearer photos now!!

I'd just like to thank everyone for all the support and encouragement, whether that's buying a figure, making a positive comment, or even just clicking 'like' on Facebook. It means a lot!

Hasselbaink Fan Fave, Leeds

Followers of this blog may well have already seen a few Hasselbaink figures done in Leeds colours.

Here's another!

This one differs in that it's wearing a different kit (98-99) and it's also a Fan Favourite figure.

Incidentally, it's also the first kneeling Fan Favourite that I've done! (I think I'm right in saying that I've done one or two kneeling Soccerstarz!)

The extremely thin yellow and blue stripes on the trim of this shirt were definitely the hardest part!

The real shirt also had Puma logos down the sleeve, but I decided against doing these; mainly to make it match the figures released in this kit!

Keep your eyes out for one more Hasselbaink figure that I've done! A Microstar in the yellow and blue halved away kit!

Gudjohnsen, Spurs

As it's Father's Day here in the UK, here are a little and large Gudjohnsen!

While neither of these figures is Gudjohnsen senior, I chose to post them today because Eidur famously got selected to play in the same International friendly as his father, thus making football history!

That fact doesn't really have anything to do with these repaints, as they are both in Spurs kits!!

I think I am right in saying this away kit was chosen because it was worn when Gudjohnsen scored the only goal he managed in his short spell at the club.

Robinson, Leeds FF

This figure came about through my desire to own all the players that represented Leeds in their various forms, be they Prostars, Microstars, Soccerstarz or Fan Favourites.

There were, of course, Leeds Prostars and Microstars of Robinson already produced by Corinthian, but when I discovered this version of him, I needed to repaint it for my collection!

The kit I went for was from Robinson's debut. Nigel Martyn had picked up an injury, so a slender teenage Robinson came in and put in a Man of the Match performance against Chelsea.

This also explains why he is wearing number 36, in case anyone was wondering! Our regular second choice, Mark Beeney, was also injured, which was why Robinson got the opportunity.

I can't find one of Robinson in it, so here's a pic of just the shirt, taken from theleedsunitedcollection.co.uk

England, World Cup 2002, part 2!

Next 2002 World Cup post, 3 more players!

This latest few England figures, comprising of one Fan Favourite figure, and 2 prostars. Put up in numberical order, naturally!

It's a nice little kit to paint, this; relatively simple, but with enough extra details to keep me interested!

All 3 of these players went to the 2002 World Cup very much as understudies, and it shows in the amount of game time they got between them.

Bridge made it on as sub a few times, but realistically had no chance of ousting Ashley Cole from the starting line-up, while Keown and Southgate offered experienced back up, but were never likely to start ahead of Ferdinand and Sol Campbell.

Here's Bridge in the kit... not sure if this photo was taken at the World Cup or not!

England, Euro 2000: the next 3!

Without further ado, here are the next 3 in the England Euro 2000 series!

In my opinion, it's pretty surprising that none of these were manufactured in this kit in the first place, especially Scholes!

He scored a hat-trick against Poland in qualifying, and also got the crucial goals in the play-off against Scotland!

My thoughts on the actual painting of this kit were posted on the previous set of Euro 2000 figures, so if you want to know them, click here, rather than making me repeat myself!!

Taylor, Leeds

Here's one of those figures where the effort put into it was probably greater than the effort expended by Taylor in his Leeds career!

That's not meant to be a slight on Taylor, who I rated quite highly. However, he only made 3 starts in his spell with LUFC.

This figure on the other hand, took weeks of tracking down, and watching and waiting for on ebay! It's also in the Alan Wright league of disproportionate cost of figure to first team action ratio!

Anyway, I do like the repaint, and am glad I made the effort!

Here's a picture of the lesser spotted Taylor!

The hair on the figure doesn't quite match his look at Leeds either!

I feel like I need to say again, I do like this repaint!!

Platini... Leeds?!

While I think it was somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind, I recently rediscovered that Michel Platini played in a Testimonial Game for a Leeds United XI.

This, along with the fact that Corinthian made a couple of Platini figures, and I'm always on the lookout for new Leeds figures to make had inevitable results:

One Fan Favourite figure + one Prostar = 2 figures of a player that played one game for Leeds!!

Keep your eye on the blog, and my facebook page for more repaints of the players that featured in the John Charles/Bobby Collins testimonial!!

...This picture offers a clue as to who else I might have repainted...

2 Gary Speeds.

As you may have noticed by looking at this blog, I'm a pretty big Leeds United fan.

Every fan has to have a favourite childhood player, and every fan also has to have their first favourite kit. That's where these 2 repaints come in.

Here are 2 different figures of my first favourite; Gary Speed, in the kit Leeds wore the year I got my first season ticket:

A Fan Favourite figure, and a Microstar.

I've also done a Prostar Speed repaint, but that was in the 1992 League Champions kit!

Go on Gary Speed, get one yourself son!
