Maradona, Boca Juniors

Happy Sunday everyone!

Here are a couple of Maradona repaints:

I've done this one a few times now, but these are the most detailed ones, so I picked them for the blog post.

I don't usually add kit manufacturers or shorts numbers, but they were requested for these. Tho it's not my usual style, I'm happy to add them when requested.

If you look carefully at the top one, you'll even notice the Puma king boots!

For the uninitiated, this post is also a good illustration of the difference between 'normal' corinthian prostars (top) and Fan Favourites (bottom pic)

Suarez, Barcelona

Not often that I do a blog post with just one picture on these days, is it?!

Funnily enough though, I only have one Barcelona pic in my repaints album that is unused. And here he is:

Quite a nice Suarez figure, if I say so myself.

For those of you wondering, you're right: Corinthian didn't make a Suarez figure! Unless I am mistaken, this is a remodel using a Kodoto head...

The reason I don't know for sure is that I didn't remodel it myself; it was sent to me like that. I just painted it!

Robbie Fowler, Liverpool away kits

This Thursday evening, I thought I'd treat you to, not only several fine Robbie Fowler repaint pics, but also to a very small word count.

Basically, I've just been on a zoom call, and have had enough of my screen for now!

Enjoy!

That Ajax team

What an amazing team Ajax had in the mid 90s. How has it taken this long for someone to ask me to do this set:

 Lovely!

Bolton Centre forwards

I've got quite a few Bolton pics that I haven't posted yet, and, looking through them, decided that 'big battering ram centre forwards' was a suitable sub set for a blog post!

I like all of these! My twelve year old self was always very jealous of Bolton for having a cool sponsor like Reebok!

The Holdsworth repaint shows how I tackled one of the few things that still gives me a bit of bother, and that I'm still working on- what to do for round necked shirts when the original figure has a collar. I actually stuck a little bit of polyfiller in the gap, but the collar itself is a little chunkier than the ideal!

Spurs Sir Les, x3

Sorry to have missed a few days again; my actual job will go getting in the way of these things!

Anyway, it's been a while since I posted any Spurs figures, so here are a trio of Les Ferdinands.

I'm fairly sure this is from about 4 or 5 years ago, and while the paintwork looks pretty neat, it's funny the things I notice looking back on old ones.

With this- it's the size of the shirt number! I'd do it smaller now. I think, when I first started, I had in my head that bigger was better for shirt numbers- probably thinking it made them clearer. Now I've learned that smaller ones can be just as clear!

This is definitely the pick of the 3, for my money! If you read this blog often, you'll know I love a clean line round the collar!!

And this one... back in the olden days, I did not photograph figures well!!

Arsenal Keepers

Hot off the press! Here are three Arsenal goalies that I finished and posted less than 3 days ago!

One of the changes I made to this Pat Jennings (apart from the kit) was painting over the bare hands that the original figure had!

When I made the decals for this Lukic figure, I accidentally printed a number one with an Umbro logo on it. You can't clearly tell from this pic, but the shirt and short have Adidas stripes down the side... so, to save having to make another decal, I painted white over the umbro logo on the 1!

I think this was my favourite of the 3, and my favouite part is the collar!! If I'm allowed to say this about my own work, I just thought the thin lines on the collar were very well done!

Everton, Salmon away kit

When this set of figures arrived on my doorstep, I looked at the accompanying picture, and thought to myself: I have literally zero recollection of this kit!!

I even decided to ask the followers of my facebook page what colour they would call it. Apparently it was officially marketed as salmon!

Anyway, here are 6 Everton figures in Salmon kit, the paint for which was lovingly mixed by my own fair hand!!

Brrrrrr!

Ready for a tenuous link?!

I scrolled through my (alphabetical by team) unused repaint pics, and these were next to each other; the only ones of their respective teams unused.

So, I decided to chuck them in a blog post together, and Br... it's cold outside.

Anyway...

I was very pleased with this one! I've done McCall in Bradford colours before, but from the Premier League era. This kit was a bit harder to fit that sponsor on, but keep the stripes on the front without making them too small. But I feel I succeeded!

I've also done Sidwell in Brighton kit before, but not on a Soccerstarz figure. Again, happy with how this turned out. Stripes on soccerstarz aren't too bad, as long as you've got a very thin brush, in good condition!

Pablo x2

In a vain attempt to raise my spirits during lockdown, here's Pablo Hernandez, who gave Leeds fans one of the best moments during lockdown with his goal against Swansea.

Personalised Funko Pops

This post is a bit of a sales pitch, but, funnily enough, I absolutely do not need to make a sales pitch at the moment- I can barely keep up with my orders as it is!

None the less, here are a couple of examples of personalised custom funko pops that I was asked to do for people as Christmas/birthday presents.

Any kit can be requested, and any shirt number and name can be added. I can do specific boot colours and on the hockey one, I was even given pictures of the pads and stick, as well as the kit.

Get in touch with me using the links in the header, or the contact form below. Just... try and give me as much notice as you can if you're interested in one of these!

Larsson x2

What a stellar career Henrik Larsson had, eh?!

I remember there always being questions about his ambition when he was at Celtic... so then he went and played for Barcelona and Man United (when they were still good) Not to mention World Cups and Euros!

I've already showed you Barcelona and Man U repaints of Larsson, so here's one of the World Cup kits, I think. Tho I can't be bothered to check, to be honest.

I've also done a couple of repaints of Larsson in his early career with Hogaborg, and Helsingborg. And Feyenoord, I think.

Here's one of his very last clubs: Raa. And that's basically all I can tell you about them!

Yak Jensen and Stuart Pearce

I've recently been reading my copy of Glove Story 2, which, in case you didn't realise, is a book all about goalkeeping that features some of my repaints, as well as hand made mini glove bags!

Even though I wouldn't particularly call myself a goalkeeping enthusiast, it's a cracking read, including some great stories that you may well have never heard before.

Of course, there are many stories and points of interest, but a couple that stick in my mind as I write this are:

1. A team of English pro goalkeepers had a basketball match against the Harlem Globetrotters in the 1970s

2. The story that led to this figure:

Stuart Pearce loved playing in goal in his youth, and while he was semi pro at Wealdstone, he missed playing with his mates... so he registered as "Yak Jensen" with Dynamo Kingsbury Kiev!

In Glove Story 2, Pearce reveals that he even chipped in with some goals, by going up for free kicks and corners, and occasionally dribbling out from the back!

I was asked to produce this remodel for the book, and was happy to do so. As you may have guessed, the kit didn't take long to paint!

I was going to end this post there, but thought- I've mentioned Wealdstone, why not stick another pic on as a bonus!

Another fairly simple repaint, but effective in it's simplicity! I also like the handpainted number. If I'm completely honest, I only attempted it because I'd printed the decal backwards, but I think it came out well!

3 iterations of Alioski!

A defeat last night for Bielsa's boys, but what an exciting game! I'm not doing that as a meme- genuinely a brilliant game of football.

I almost started a rant about 'changing style' and 'being pragmatic then, but I can't be bothered! It's not what you're here for, and if you still agree with pundits calling out Bielsa for having what is by and large a squad of Championship players competing for the top half, then the opinion of someone who paints little plastic footballers probably isn't going to change that!

Here is one of those championship players!

Alioski has gone through quite the array of hairstyles at Leeds... this prostar was based on his appearance in his first season at Leeds. A pretty good lookalike, I'd say. You can't see the kappa logos down the side on this photo, but I'm pretty sure I put them on.

What was that I was saying about hairstyles?! These 2 funkos are based on pictures of him from the same season! I was quite happy with both, though the top one does look like he's spent a bit more time on the tanning beds!!

Wednesday 3 February 2021

Bianchi and Recoba, Torino

I haven't posted any 'overseas' figures for a while, so here are a couple of Torino players.

I did both of these quite a while ago. The one thing that jumps out at me about this one- I can see that the number 9 is hand-painted. Other than that, it's pretty standard!

This one is definitely more recent than the first. Something that I find myself pondering with this one is that with all the other diagonal 'sash' kits that I've painted (River, LA Galaxy), I'm sure it goes from left shoulder to right hip; ie the opposite way to this one. I don't know if that's usual, and I've probably never thought about it until now!

I might not have considered it at all, if i hadn't just finished a load of River Plate soccerstarz. Pics up soon, when I've had it confirmed that they've arrived in the US.

2 Youthful Forest Players!

Looking through my repaints album, I thought: I haven't posted any Forest pictures for a while, and these were the last 2 left.

I thought to myself  that John Terry must've had a rough paper round if he looked like that when he joined Forest as a young player, and then realised it was pretty much the same case for Sheringham!!

The thin white lines round the shoulders and cuffs are definitely the best bit about the terry figure!
